Jazz Roots To Reed Flutes - Lured away from a successful career as a jazz bass player, Jay Kruse followed the siren call of reed flutes and hand drums. Having devoted years learning to craft these traditional instruments, his unique path has enabled him to synthesize various distinct musical styles into a blend of sounds that are distinctly his own.
New Sonic Spaces - In Reed Songs, Jay Kruse explores the modal and rhythmic systems of one tradition on the instruments of another. In so doing, he has brought to light a provocative new landscape of sound. In the midst of these musical explorations, Jay recently went into the studio with a few of his favorite flutes to record Reed Songs. The unique improvisations on this CD are a synthesis of the very sounds and moods that originally inspired him almost 20 years ago.
Keeping The Music Real - This recording is unusually honest, employing no editing tricks or extreme sound processing. To create the music for Reed Songs, Jay Kruse brings to life a piece of hollow reed, with his breath, and a lifetime of wide-ranging musical and cultural exploration. Check out the soulful sounds of Jay Kruse's Reed Songs today.
